About Gorkha FM

Human beings cannot exist in isolation. Engagement in social exchange is their basic need. It is the communication, which largely brings humans closer together and unite communities into one. Communication is at the heart of every single interaction. It is social and cultural 'togetherness'. It would be significant to quote Neal and Brown as saying that communication is all that makes people human. It would not be exaggeration to argue that we are living in mediated world. These days we see the world through the omnipresent eyes of media. Fore these reasons, no one can underestimate the role of mass media and Information Technology in the 21st century.

People have made a giant leap from printing by seal, stamp or wooden block to information dissemination by such advanced technology as radio, TV, film or World Wide Web. Electronic media revolutionized the vast field of mass communication in the world and brought far-off lands together. The world witnessed the invention of Marconi, an American genius was successful to send message through radio waves in 1895 A.D. Radio is based on AM and SW. Regular broadcasting of radio started in America in 1920. The world witnessed the invention of FM broadcasting in 1936. So far as radio broadcasting in Nepal is concerned prior to 2052 BS, there was monopoly of state-owned Radio Nepal. National Broadcasting Act (2049) and National Broadcasting Policy (2049) paved way for private sectors to invest in mass media. Radio Nepal initiated FM broadcasting through the wave of 100 MHz.

Radio Sagarmatha, the first independent radio got license in 2054, marked the beginning of true democratization of in the field of radio broadcasting. Journalism has already entered to a new era crossing the frontiers of print media. The barrier of time and geography have been dismantled and made the world a family. Global Village is no more a mere illusion thanks to electronic media. The saga of mass media will vanish, if we will be able to add chapter over a period of times. Therefore it would be meaningful to say that the birth of Gorkha FM 93 MHz is a demand of time to further widen the scope of mass communication, which is far more important today than ever before. The information society has created Global Village by further shrinking the world. Therefore the importance of mass media cannot be underestimated in digital era.
